What is Kapiruna?
Discover the story behind Kapiruna and our passion for quality textiles.
We’re a young brand blending Peruvian craftsmanship, sustainability, and vibrant design. Our mission is to help you bring warmth, color, and human connection to your living room, hotel, Airbnb, camper, yoga studio, bar… But even if this page just sparks inspiration and you fall in love with Peruvian style, we’ll be just as happy (just leave us a comment so we know!).
Our Mission
We craft unique pieces—pillows, rugs (=textile floor coverings), and beauty cases—handwoven by the campesinas of Cusco and Ayacucho, bringing the vibrant energy of Peruvian colors to spaces that dare to be different. When we use industrially woven “aguayos,” we ensure that local traders and seamstresses receive fair and just compensation for their work. We commit to:
- Honoring craftsmanship: Paying weavers and seamstresses fairly and preserving centuries-old techniques.
- Inspiring welcoming spaces: Partnering with bars and venues that want to stand out with vibrant, sustainable design.
- Celebrating joy: Through patterns and hues that turn the ordinary into extraordinary, every day.
Our Vision
We envision a world where the heart of Peru transforms spaces into places of warmth, color, and human connection. Our dream is for Peruvian craftsmanship and textiles to not only beautify homes and venues, but to stand as symbols of ethical, joyful, and timeless design.
Who we are
We are Michela, Arianna (from Germany), and Vittoria (from Italy). We started buying Peruvian fabrics and products as gifts, and from there, the idea of creating a brand was born. Our goal is to provide weavers and seamstresses in Peru with a more steady income. Plus, we’re convinced that Europe needs more color and warmth in our homes and various spaces. We chose the name Kapiruna, which is the vine used for Ayahuasca, to pay homage to it and express our gratitude for the inspiration we’ve received, and to highlight the connection that exists between all beings and nature. We begin with textiles from the Andes, but soon we hope to expand our offerings to include Amazonian totems and sculptures, paintings, shamanic drums, and other high-quality handcrafted instruments and objects.
